Dr Laurence Dorman

SpecialityChair, Northern Ireland, Royal College of GPs

In 2004 I obtained my MRCGP and was elected to RCGPNI Council that same year. I undertook many roles within the college and I became Chair of RCGPNI in November 2019. In 2007 I was honoured to join Mourne Family Surgery, Kilkeel as a partner. Kilkeel is located on the East coast of Northern Ireland between the Mourne Mountains and the Irish sea. We provide care for a rural community with strong links to the fishing industry. I work four clinical sessions per week having previously performed other roles in our local hospice and GP appraisal.

In 2008 I obtained my FRCGP and was very proud to collect it with my father some 30 years after he was awarded his own fellowship.

In the years before taking on Chair of RCGPNI I was heavily involved in the establishment and running of Newry and District Federation of Family practices. This community interest company grew from a small group of GPs meeting in our coffee room to a significant business employing over 50 staff.

I still love General Practice! It is busy and challenging but I passionately feel it is still the best job in the world.
